Walta Engineering and Trading, founded in 1988 E.C. (1995/1996 G.C.) with a modest 6,000 Birr credit, is named in memorial of the patriot Yohanes Gebremedhin, known as Walta. Initially operating as "Walta Metal Works" and producing basic furniture, the company's early progress was disrupted when its owner joined the war effort during the EPLF (Shabia) invasion of Tigray in 1990 E.C. (1997/1998 G.C.). Despite this setback, Walta re-established itself as "Walta Workshop" in 1993 E.C. (2000/2001 G.C.), beginning its formal work and quickly earning customer appreciation.
With a vision to become the primary manufacturing choice for its community and government by 2020 E.C. (2027/2028 G.C.), Walta is committed to utilizing new technologies and satisfying demand with quality products at the right price.
